Bio - A Brief History of a Kat and Her Music
My
mother instilled a love of music deep in my soul from an early age. As
soon as I could reach the keys, I was sitting at the piano, plunking out
songs I knew and making up my own. I taught myself how to read music
from an old book found at a yard sale, and from there, my obsession with all
things musical continued to gain steam. I took music lessons in
various instruments including viola, clarinet, and flute through my grade
school years, and picked up my first guitar at age 12. I composed
dozens of songs throughout my teenage years, most of which will never see
the light of day if I have anything to say about it. But these early
musical meanderings set the stage for a lifetime of creating, pointing me
towards the ever-changing path I walk today.
My first "real" band was called
Twelve Days Dry, and we played a great
many shows in small venues around Columbus, Ohio beginning in January of
1997. Due to the bizarre proclivities of our musicians moving to
foreign countries (including Israel and Texas - yes, Texas is a foreign
country), the band broke up in December of 1998.
I moved to Northern Virginia in June of 2003, and found a
weekly solo acoustic gig at the Bistrot Lafayette Lounge, in Old Town
Alexandria. That lasted almost five months, but died when the Lounge
closed in February 2004. I am currently investigating a few musical
prospects, and looking for a band and/or solo gig opportunities.
